Track 4: Dynamic Meshes
The Internet of Things
This workshop is an interactive hands-on experience with Internet of Things (IoT). Participants will set up their own end-to-end cloud IoT-system using RaspberryPi microcontrollers.
Following a brief theoretical introduction into RaspberryPi, participants will get their hands dirty and connect a small sensor to the controller. Then configure a Python script to read the sensor data, test it locally, and stream the readout signal into the Azure cloud.
Finally, there will be a discussion and Q&A. Knowledge about RaspberryPi, IoT, or Azure, is useful but not required. Everyone is welcome to join no matter their previous experience.
Learning goal
The key takeaway is for participants to experience how easy and accessible the process of streaming IoT data into the cloud is. Additionally, they will be able to compare the two biggest players on the cloud market and get a first experience with these technologies. Last but not least, the workshop is not purely focused on software, but gives participants an opportunity to create something with their hands - a true hands-on experience!
Pre-requisites
Participants need a laptop with a terminal, PowerShell, or any other means to connect to a remote machine.
