Track 3: Data Craftsmanship

Computer vision:
from fundamentals to your first application

In this workshop, we will dive into the topic of Computer Vision (CV) that is at the core of many technologies, from everyday Video Conference calls to self-driving cars and Virtual Reality. CV can be a complex topic for beginners with numerous new concepts and notions. In this talk we will lay the foundations to help you get a deeper understanding of the field as well as talk about its current and potential applications.

In the theory part of the workshop, we will firstly provide the technical basis for understanding common deep learning based CV architectures. Then we will provide an overview of the latest models and their capabilities including generative models, transformers and beyond. Finally we will take a look at the latest fields of research and what we can expect in the future.

Furthermore, in the hands-on part of the workshop the participants will have the opportunity to build and deploy their first CV model for a people and face recognition project. To facilitate this, we will provide you with useful open-source resources that simplify the task of building your own CV model and assist you throughout the process.

Goal of the Session

By the end of this workshop, the participants will have a deeper understanding of Computer Vision, its potential applications, and where research is headed in this exciting field.
